NARCO Asbestos Trust

The NARCO Asbestos Trust is formally called the North American Refractories Company Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust. It was established on April 30, 2013, to pay all valid NARCO asbestos trust claims. NARCO put money aside in an asbestos trust fund to avoid being sued by those who were exposed to asbestos through their products.

NARCO Asbestos Trust

Within NARCOS’ Trust Distribution Procedures, it states that the NARCO asbestos trust is “designed to provide fair and equitable treatment in substantially the same manner for all NARCO Asbestos Trust Claims that presently exist or may arise in the future.”

Like other asbestos trusts there are certain Disease Levels that must meet certain criteria, which then determine the scheduled value that the claimant is to be paid.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is categorized as a Level VII disease level and has a scheduled value of $75,000. To be eligible for this money the claimant must have a mesothelioma diagnosis as well as evidence of exposure to a specific asbestos-containing product that was manufactured or distributed by either NARCO or a predecessor.

Lung Cancer 1

Lung Cancer 1 is categorized as a Level VI disease level and its current scheduled value is $18,000. To qualify for payment for this money the claimant must meet a set of criteria. There must be a diagnosis of primary lung cancer along with evidence of an underlying bilateral asbestos related nonmalignant disease. The claimant must have also been exposed to a specific asbestos-containing product that was manufactured or distributed by NARCO or any predecessors, there must be significant occupational exposure to asbestos, and there must be medical documentation that supports the fact that asbestos exposure contributed to the lung cancer diagnosis.

Lung Cancer 2

Lung Cancer 2 is classified as a Level V disease and there is currently no scheduled value for payment. To meet the criteria, the claimant must be diagnosed with a primary lung cancer, they must have been exposed to a specific NARCO product that contained asbestos, and there must be medical documentation that supports the connection between the asbestos exposure and the lung cancer diagnosis.

Other Cancer

“Other Cancer” is classified as a level IV disease with a $9,000 scheduled value. The claimant must have a diagnosis of a primary colorectal, esophageal, laryngeal, pharyngeal, or stomach cancer, along with evidence of an underlying bilateral asbestos-related nonmalignant disease. Like all other criteria, there must be evidence of occupational exposure to a NARCO asbestos-containing product. There must also be significant occupational exposure as well as medical documentation that supports the fact that the cancer is related to the asbestos exposure in some way.

Severe Asbestosis

Severe asbestosis is a level III disease with a current scheduled value of $18,000. There must be an asbestosis diagnosis that meets specific criteria, exposure to a specific NARCO product that contained asbestos, significant occupational exposure to asbestos, and medical documentation that supports the fact that asbestos exposure is a contributing factor to the asbestosis diagnosis.

Asbestosis/Pleural Disease

This is a level II disease with a scheduled value of $7,500. Among other criteria there must be a diagnosis of a bilateral asbestos-related nonmalignant disease, along with exposure to a specific NARCO asbestos-containing product, significant occupational exposure, and medical evidence linking the asbestosis to asbestos exposure.

Other Asbestos Disease

According to the NARCO asbestos trust, this is a level I disease with a scheduled value of $1,200. To meet the criteria for this disease category, the claimant must have a diagnosis of a bilateral asbestos-related nonmalignant disease, exposure to a specific asbestos-containing product manufactured or distributed by NARCO, and five years of occupational asbestos exposure.
